Southampton Man Jailed for Sexting Fake 13-Year-Old
Jordan Cavie, 28, from Southampton, pleaded guilty at Southampton Crown Court today (10 January) for attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.
Explicit Messages to Fake Teen Online
The disgusting offence happened between 16 and 19 September 2019, when Cavie sent explicit messages to what he believed was a 13-year-old girl’s online profile. Police swooped, arresting him at his Southampton home in November 2019 after a thorough investigation.
Serious Sentence for Serious Crime
Cavie was slapped with an 18-month prison term – suspended for 21 months. He must also complete 100 hours of unpaid work, attend 40 days of rehabilitation, take part in a sexual offender programme, and is barred from working with children.
He’s been slapped with a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and will be on the Sex Offenders Register for a decade. On top of that, Cavie must pay £1,000 in court costs.
Police Warn on Social Media Dangers
“Social media makes it easy for predators to target young people,” said DC Angela Smith-Jones from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary’s Internet Child Abuse Team.
“Despite knowing the girl was underage, Cavie continued sending sexual content. Our teams stay committed to protecting children from sexual predators and violence.”
Detective Constable Colin Haynes of the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit added: “Thankfully no children were harmed, but Cavie believed he was talking to a child. We work with police forces across the South East to disrupt offenders and protect children.”
Stay Vigilant: Protect Kids Online
If you’re worried about a child’s behaviour online or offline, talk to trained professionals. They can help identify risks of child sexual exploitation.
Remind children that online ‘friends’ may not be who they claim. Check apps, parental controls, and privacy settings regularly to keep youngsters safe.
