Water Supply Slowly Returns After Power Outage

Water is gradually coming back on across the Isle of Sheppey, but many customers will still face low pressure this morning. Those supplied by the Southdown reservoir will see a slow return throughout the day, while areas served by Kingsborough reservoir should expect water within a few hours.

Heads up: Turn off your taps before bed tonight to avoid flooding when the water surge hits.

Discoloured Water? Here’s What to Do

Following the power cut, it’s normal for your taps to run cloudy or discoloured water – but don’t panic. This should clear once the network stabilises.

  • Cloudy or white water: Pour a glass and wait a few minutes. The cloudiness is just air bubbles from pipes refilling.
  • Brown or black water: Run your tap for a few minutes. If it doesn’t clear, switch off your water for 20 minutes then try again.
  • Important: Avoid using hot water taps, dishwashers, washing machines, or any water-using appliances until water runs clear. Flushing the toilet is fine.

Airlocks can happen after pipes are drained and refilled. Running your taps briefly helps to clear them.

Still Have Issues? Here’s Who to Call

If your neighbours have water and you don’t, or discolouration lasts more than 24-48 hours, contact the water company on 0330 303 0368.

Apologies are extended for the disruption and stress caused. The recovery effort is progressing well, with many already seeing water back on in their homes.
