Triple Killer Axel Rudakubana Scalds Prison Officer with Boiling Water in Brutal HMP Belmarsh Attack
Axel Rudakubana, the triple murderer serving a 52-year minimum sentence for stabbing three young girls in Southport, has launched a shocking pre-planned attack on a prison officer at HMP Belmarsh. The 18-year-old threw boiling water over the guard in a violent ambush inside the high-security London jail on 8 May.
Boiling Water Assault Leaves Officer Hospitalised
The targeted prison officer was rushed to hospital but was discharged the same day. He is expected to return to duty next week.
Sources say Rudakubana’s attack was meticulously planned. There were fears the boiling water might have been mixed with sugar — a cruel tactic that worsens burns — but thankfully, this was not the case.
“He is clearly not rehabilitated and has nothing to lose,” a prison insider revealed, confirming Rudakubana’s privileges will be severely tightened.
Justice Secretary Faces Mounting Pressure Over Prison Safety
Shadow Justice Secretary Robert Jenrick blasted the attack as the third major security failure in a UK high-security jail in recent weeks.
“Warning after warning has been ignored. This is a full-blown crisis. The Justice Secretary needs to act now,” Jenrick posted on X (formerly Twitter).
He added:
“It’s reported that deranged killers still have access to kettles. My thoughts are with the officer. The safety of our prison staff must come first.”
Security Fears Deepen at High-Security Prisons
Rudakubana shares a secure unit with the Manchester Arena bomber Hashem Abedi, who recently attacked prison officers at HMP Frankland. This latest assault has reignited fierce debate over whether violent inmates in Close Supervision Centres should have any access to boiling water or similar dangerous items.
The Prison Service confirmed the attack and vowed to pursue the strongest punishments for violence against staff.
“Police are investigating an attack on a prison officer at HMP Belmarsh. Violence in prison will not be tolerated.”
Recall: The Southport Knife Murders That Shocked the Nation
Earlier this year, Rudakubana was sentenced for the chilling knife attack at a children’s Taylor Swift-themed dance class in Southport last July. The brutal murders of six-year-old Bebe King, seven-year-old Elsie Stancombe, and nine-year-old Alice da Silva Aguiar devastated the nation and sparked widespread tributes.
