A teenage boy has been charged after allegedly stealing a car during a terrifying robbery in Chatham.

On Saturday 24 February 2024, a motorist parked on Batchelor Street was confronted by a stranger as he returned to his vehicle. The attacker threatened him with a knife, forcing the victim to hand over his car keys. The thief then sped off in the stolen car, prompting a swift police response.

Detectives from the Kent Crime Squad launched an immediate investigation, scrutinising CCTV footage and following leads. Just four days later, on Wednesday 28 February, they arrested a suspect on James Street, Gillingham.
17-Year-Old Charged with Robbery and Knife Possession
The 17-year-old local lad now faces charges of robbery and possession of a knife in a public place. He appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Friday 1 March and is remanded ahead of a hearing at Medway Youth Court set for Thursday 7 March.
