£1.7 Million Cannabis Haul and 17 Arrests in Sussex Drug Raids
Sussex Police have smashed a major drug ring, seizing a whopping £1.7 million worth of cannabis plants and arresting 17 suspects in a nationwide crackdown on organised crime.
Massive Cannabis Bust Across Sussex
In a coordinated blitz, Sussex officers linked up with national and regional crime units to hit organised gangs running drug supply chains. After months of intelligence gathering, raids were launched simultaneously at 19 addresses across the county.
Officers confiscated 1,740 cannabis plants with an estimated street value of £1.74 million. They also recovered over £15,000 in cash, a stash of Class A drugs, and criminal property valued at £2,000.
Key Arrests and Ongoing Investigations
One significant raid took place on 20 February with suspects remanded in custody ahead of a 20 March sentencing hearing. A 29-year-old man from eastbourne/" title="Eastbourne" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Eastbourne was arrested on suspicion of producing Class B drugs but has since been released on bail.
Further swoops on 27 February targeted two Brighton properties, resulting in seven people facing drug supply charges.
Police Warn of Drug Trade’s Harmful Impact
“Partnership operations such as these are crucial in disrupting the organised crime groups who spread so much harm through our communities,” said Detective Chief Inspector Vicky Dias.
“The destruction caused by the illegal drug trade stretches far beyond the dangerous substances themselves. It fuels violence, anti-social behaviour, and the exploitation of vulnerable individuals, including children.”
Sussex Police vow to keep making the region a hostile zone for drug traffickers. They urge anyone with information on suspected drug activity to report it confidentially via 101, online, or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
