Teen Jailed for Stabbing School Friend to Death in East London Park
A 16-year-old boy has been locked up for 12 years after fatally stabbing his schoolmate, 15-year-old Pharell Garcia, in a chilling attack in east London.
Deadly Walk in the Park
The tragic stabbing unfolded on 23 July 2024 at Stellman Close, E5. Once friends, the teen and Pharell arranged to meet, but tensions flared over nasty rumours. Armed with a multi-tool knife, the attacker plunged it into Pharell’s chest and then chased him as he ran for his life.
Pharell collapsed and died at the scene, with emergency crews unable to save him.
Damning Evidence Seals Teen’s Fate
The Old Bailey trial revealed explosive evidence against the convicted teen, who cannot be named for legal reasons:
- CCTV captured the stabbing, pursuit, and weapon disposal in full.
- DNA linked the multi-tool knife to both victim and attacker.
- The teen’s phone held 43 images and videos of him playing with knives days before the murder.
- Texts and Snapchat messages showed plans to cover his tracks, including a desperate plea to his mother to remove items from their home and a disturbing message about fleeing to Portugal.
Despite the teen’s claim of self-defence, forensic and video evidence crushed his story.
On 20 June, the court labelled him a dangerous offender and ordered he serve at least seven years before parole.
Police and Community Speak Out
“When the defendant became in possession of that weapon, he had a choice. He could have walked away… instead, he chose to stab Pharell and left him to die,”
said Detective Chief Inspector Kelly Allen, who led the investigation.
“This case is a harrowing reminder of the devastating impact of knife crime. We continue working with community partners to steer young people away from violence,”
added Detective Superintendent Brittany Clarke.
