Tragic Teen Shot Dead During Tottenham Gang ‘Ride-Out’
A 17-year-old girl was blasted dead in Tottenham amid a brutal gang shootout – and shockingly, she might not have been the intended target, the Old Bailey has heard.
Victim Named: Tanesha Melbourne-Blake
Tanesha Melbourne-Blake was chatting with friends on Chalgrove Road, Tottenham, on Easter Monday 2018 when a car screeched up and gunfire erupted. She was hit in the chest, collapsing in the street, whispering to a friend, “Jace, I’ve been shot.” Despite desperate efforts from neighbours and paramedics, Tanesha died at the scene from internal injuries.
Deadly Gang Feud Fuels Tragedy
The court revealed the shooting was revenge in a savage war between rival crews from Wood Green and Northumberland Park. Prosecutor Jocelyn Ledward KC told jurors the attack came after a humiliating social media video showing a gang-linked assault on Marcus La Croix, aka “Bobby Slater.”
La Croix and Michael Clarke, nicknamed “Da Gaffa,” organised the gang ‘ride-out’ to retaliate, armed with a self-loading pistol aiming to kill or maim. But the deadly bullet that killed Tanesha seems to have been a tragic accident amid the violent showdown.
Community Grieves, Justice Hangs in Balance
Floral tributes poured in at the shooting scene as friends and family mourned the kind-hearted teenager cruelly cut down in her prime. La Croix and Clarke face murder and firearm charges but both plead not guilty.
“The ride-out was intended to result in death or serious injury through the use of a self-loading pistol. Although Tanesha may not have been the intended target, the defendants acted with the clear intention to harm.” – Prosecutor Jocelyn Ledward KC
The trial at Old Bailey rolls on, with dramatic CCTV evidence from the earlier violent attack already shown to jurors. Tottenham’s shaken community demands tough action to halt gang violence before more lives are lost.
