South East London Fire Station Flooded After Major Water Leak

Chaos erupted in South East London early Friday when a burst water main submerged Lee Green fire station and flooded nearby streets. Ten fire engines and rescue boats rushed to the scene on Eltham Road in Greenwich after the major water leak caused flooding up to six feet deep.

Firefighters Trapped and Rescue Efforts Underway

Firefighters found themselves cut off by the floodwaters as the water main fractured just after 3 a.m. Specialist rescue units from Bexley and Lewisham, equipped with boats and rescue suits, sprang into action to evacuate residents trapped in flooded properties on Meadow Court Road. Emergency crews are battling both the rising waters and damaged roads as they try to cap the broken water valve.

Road Closures and Public Advised to Steer Clear

Eltham Road was shut down in both directions as emergency services scrambled to control the situation. A critical incident planned for the area had to be postponed. Authorities urge drivers and locals to avoid the area while repairs take place. Engineers have called for a high-volume pump to aid in drainage as damage assessments continue.

Met Police and London Fire Brigade have been contacted for comment.
