Teen Terror Plot Thwarted in Essex
A 17-year-old boy from Essex has been charged with six terrorism offences after a major police probe.
Arrest and Searches
On the morning of Tuesday, 29th December, the unnamed teenager was arrested under the Terrorism Act during a pre-planned intelligence-led raid. Officers searched two homes in chelmsford/" title="Chelmsford" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Chelmsford and Brentwood linked to the investigation.
Serious Allegations Revealed
Police claim the boy was plotting a terrorist attack. He allegedly drew up plans for a storage bunker, shared details on making firearms via 3D printing, and sent money to buy materials for the weapons. His intended target was reportedly another individual.
Charges and Court Appearance
- One count of preparing an act of terrorism (Terrorism Act 2006, Section 5)
- One count of disseminating terrorist publications (Section 2(1))
- Four counts of possessing materials useful for terrorism (Section 58)
The teen was charged on Sunday, 3rd January. He appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court via video link on Monday, 4th January, and was remanded in custody ahead of a hearing at the Old Bailey on 22nd January.
