Kent Police Crackdown Sees Vehicles Seized and Driver Arrested in Medway
Major Operation Targets Unsafe Drivers
On Thursday 30 March 2023, Kent Police’s Roads Policing Unit teamed up with the DVSA and HM Revenue and Customs for a heavy-handed crackdown in the Medway City Estate. Their mission? To hunt down uninsured and untaxed vehicles and catch unsafe drivers red-handed.
Vehicles Seized, Offenders Slapped With Fines
During the swoop, two vehicles were seized for having no insurance and road tax. Drivers faced a storm of traffic offence reports for dangerous slip-ups: insecure loads, defective tyres, illegal window tints, no test certificates, and using mobile phones behind the wheel. One unlucky motorist copped a £300 fixed penalty for driving an overweight vehicle.
Dramatic Chase Ends With Arrest
The drama peaked when a Citroen van refused to stop for officers and sped off. The chase ended in Allhallows, where police arrested a 21-year-old from Rochester on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, and driving under the influence of drugs. He’s now on bail as investigations continue.
More Vehicles Grounded by DVSA
DVSA inspectors put over 20 vehicles under the microscope, slapping prohibitions on four, making them illegal to drive. Two others were grounded for being overweight – no getting around the rules!
Chief Inspector Craig West said: “We target those who drive unsafe vehicles and put others in danger. This multi-agency operation made sure offenders faced tough consequences—some had their vehicles seized.”
“We’ll keep enforcing these rules across Kent. Anyone risking lives with unsafe driving should expect fines or court appearances.”
