Brutal Robbery Shatters Elderly Man’s Life in Sutton-in-Ashfield
Dawid Stanek, 21, forced his way into a 77-year-old dementia sufferer’s home in The Oval, Sutton-in-Ashfield, on September 21. The vulnerable victim was viciously attacked before Stanek fled with jewellery and cash.
Youth Jailed for Brutal Home Invasion
Following a thorough police hunt, Stanek was tracked down and arrested at a Kirkby-in-Ashfield address by Mansfield’s new Operation Reacher team. He pleaded guilty to robbery at Nottingham Crown Court and was slammed with a seven-year prison sentence on Tuesday.
Family Heartbroken as Innocent Man Loses Independence
The elderly victim was hospitalised after being struck on the head and suffering arm injuries. His daughter Michelle spoke out about the traumatic ordeal:
“This was an absolutely horrific experience for Dad and the whole family. He’s one of the kindest people you could ever meet, and for this to happen in his own home was disgusting – the lowest of the low.”
“Since the attack, he can no longer live independently and is in a care home where we can’t visit due to Covid. Stanek didn’t just take his jewellery and money – he stole his freedom and independence.”
“Dad had lived in that house for 48 years. To think that was his last moment there is truly heartbreaking. We’re relieved justice has finally been served and grateful to Nottinghamshire Police, especially Detective Adam Penn, for their tireless efforts.”
“Dad can’t remember much of the attack, which is probably a blessing. But he’s now safe and comfortable.”
Detective Condemns Cowardly Attack on Vulnerable Man
Detective Constable Adam Penn said:
“This was a shocking and cowardly attack on a vulnerable man with no chance to defend himself against someone over 50 years his junior. Stanek’s violence put the victim in hospital and deeply upset the local community.”
“I’m glad he’s been punished. Hopefully, the sentence gives closure to those affected and that Stanek uses this time to rethink his life.”
