Lisa Brown Mystery Deepens as Ex-Boyfriend Simon Corner Flees Prison on Day Release

Vanished in Spain: The Disappearance of Lisa Brown

Scotland-born Lisa Brown, 32, vanished without a trace from her home in Guadiaro, San Roque, Spain, on Wednesday 4 November 2015. She lived there with her eight-year-old son. Concern grew when, four days later, Spanish police were alerted after Lisa failed to pick up her son from school. Inside her apartment, signs of a violent struggle were found, prompting a full forensic investigation.

Prime Suspect Flees Across Europe

Lisa’s former boyfriend, Simon Corner (also known as Dean Woods), a luxury yacht dealer, quickly came under scrutiny. After being questioned, Woods fled Spain. Authorities tracked him down and arrested him in Denmark in April 2016. He was extradited back to Spain and imprisoned but later released.

At the end of 2017, Woods broke his bail conditions. A European Arrest Warrant was issued, and he was arrested again as he stepped off a flight at Heathrow Airport. The family hoped he would face trial over Lisa’s disappearance. But in a shocking twist, the judge archived the case citing insufficient evidence, and no charges were brought.

Hopes Rise, Then Shatter for Lisa’s Family

In October 2018, Lisa’s family were thrilled to hear the case against Woods would be reopened. However, their hopes were dashed again when lawyers confirmed Woods would not face prosecution.

Woods later landed behind bars for a different crime — convicted as part of a €10 million drug ring and sentenced to 12 years in prison.

New Twist: Woods Escapes From Open Prison

Now the nightmare returns. Woods has absconded after failing to return from day release at HMP Sudbury on Saturday 19 November. Authorities describe him as around 5ft 11in, medium build, with short brown hair, brown eyes, and a Liverpool accent.

Lisa’s mum Helen slammed the justice system: “What are they doing giving him day release when he was sentenced to 12 years two years ago? He’s in an open prison, free to come and go as he pleases — but then doesn’t bother to return. While we thought he was inside, it gave us some peace that he was paying for his crimes. No—what an absolute joke of a justice system.

“Especially given his numerous aliases, passports, and help he’s had absconding, he should never have been allowed day release.”
