Teenager Joseph Whitchurch Fatally Stabbed on Boxing Day
Sixteen-year-old Joseph Whitchurch was tragically stabbed to death in the early hours of Boxing Day 2020. The brutal attack was carried out by 21-year-old Jake Rollinson, a violent criminal and low-level drug dealer.
Rollinson Gets Life Sentence – Minimum 19 Years Behind Bars
Today (Friday), Rollinson was handed a life sentence at Nottingham Crown Court. He must serve at least 19 years in prison for the savage murder.
Rollinson, known for flaunting knives and cash on social media, stabbed Joseph four times in his grandmother’s kitchen in Stapleford. He then tried to cover up the crime with a string of lies, even making a false 999 call claiming Joseph was attacked outside.

“Joseph was a loving and caring young man, with a smile that would light up a room,”
his mother Lisa said in a powerful court statement. “He was always looking out for his younger brothers and was a kind and loyal friend. The hole he has left in our lives is unimaginable.”
“Nothing prepares you for the loss of a child – especially when they’re taken in such a brutal way.”
Investigation Uncovers Dark Truth Behind Murder
Detective Inspector Steve Wragg, who led the investigation, described Rollinson as a “violent and aggressive drug dealer with a fondness for knives.”
“Instead of being a friend, Rollinson was a controlling bully who intimidated Joseph,” Wragg said. “His lies unraveled quickly, revealing a sordid attack with a large hunting knife.”
The knife was found hidden in the garden moments before paramedics arrived. Despite efforts to save him, Joseph died three days later in hospital.
Accomplice Sentenced for Attempting to Pervert Justice
Rollinson’s ex-girlfriend, 26-year-old Lorna Richardson, also faced the court. She supported the cover-up and was jailed for two years for attempting to pervert the course of justice.
Justice Served but Grief Remains
“This sentence ends a long legal ordeal for Joseph’s family,” said DI Wragg, “but it won’t ease their daily pain. Their courage and dignity throughout this nightmare is truly remarkable.”
