Husband Jailed for Life After 20 Years Over Wife’s Kent Murder
Debbie Griggs vanished from her Deal, Kent home back in May 1999. Her husband, Andrew Griggs, denied any involvement. But a cold case review has finally cracked the mystery – he was found guilty of her murder in October 2019 and sentenced to life behind bars.
Body Found in Dorset Garden After Tip-Off
Police dug up a garden in St Leonards, Dorset, following a tip-off and uncovered human remains, including tooth fragments. Forensic tests confirmed the teeth belonged to Debbie during a post-mortem exam. Authorities are now carrying out further tests to pinpoint how she died and why her remains ended up there.
Devastated Family Finally Gets Closure
Detective Chief Inspector Neil Kimber from Kent’s Serious Crime Directorate said:
“It’s been more than 20 years since Debbie was murdered by her husband, but we’ve never given up hope of finding her remains and giving her loved ones some closure.”
He added:
“Andrew Griggs denied responsibility, but this discovery proves he was lying all along, causing even more pain for everyone who loved Debbie. While they continue to grieve, I hope they can find solace now that she can be laid to rest.”
The Motive and Sentence
Andrew Griggs, 60, was handed a life sentence with a minimum of 20 years at 1 Crown Court. Prosecutors said he had “the most reason” to make Debbie disappear, pointing to suspicions of her having an affair with a 15-year-old and possible business motives.
