Logan Mwangi Found Dead with 56 Injuries in River
Logan Mwangi’s body was discovered in the River Ogmore, Sarn, Bridgend, last July. The toddler suffered 56 internal injuries, sparking a harrowing murder investigation.
John Cole Claims He Tried to Save Logan
John Cole, 40, told police he was woken by Angharad Williamson, 31, screaming that Logan was dead. At Cardiff Crown Court, Cole admitted he and Williamson had hit Logan before but insisted they didn’t mean to kill him.
“I’m certain neither of us wanted to hurt Logan, not like this,” Cole said in a police interview.
He described Logan as “clumsy” and constantly “jumping off stuff,” saying the boy was “wound up” with Covid the day before his death.
“I carried him into the bedroom and threw him on the bed,” Cole admitted, but couldn’t explain how he landed.
He went on: “He later slipped and landed in the bath and was still kicking off when I went to sleep.”
Cole said he woke to Williamson screaming: “He’s dead, Logan’s dead.” He tried CPR but Logan’s head flopped lifelessly.
“I love Logan – I didn’t murder him, I tried to save him,” Cole insisted.
Cole admitted perverting the course of justice. Williamson and a 14-year-old boy deny all charges, including murder.
Disturbing Threats from Teen Linked to Case
The court heard worrying evidence about the 14-year-old co-defendant. A support worker reported hearing him say, “Where are the kids? I want to kill all the kids.”
Another worker said the teen sang about punching children in the head, calling it “orgasmic” after Logan’s death.
Family Feuds and Denials Add to Mystery
A phone call between Williamson and her mother revealed the tension. Williamson questioned how Cole could plead guilty to perverting justice but deny murder, saying: “What has he done to my son? I need to know.”
Williamson also wrote a letter to her family denying involvement in Logan’s death. She wrote:
“I’ve lost my son and my ex-partner admitted to hurting child L and moving his body. As my parents, I hope you know I have nothing to do with child L’s death. I’m not the monster they are saying I am in the media.”
She added she felt “alone and scared” but claimed the truth about Logan would come out.
All three defendants deny murder. The two adults also deny causing or allowing the death of a child. The chilling trial continues.
