Hit-and-Run Horror: Reckless Driver Jailed After Life-Changing Crash in Uxbridge

A hit-and-run driver who left a man with devastating injuries in Uxbridge has been locked up for five years. Shocking footage captured the exact moment of impact, now released with the victim’s blessing.

High-Speed Chase Ends in Disaster

Nahome Rezene, 23, of Newcourt, Hillingdon, was behind the wheel of a blue Mercedes when police tried to stop him on 26 November 2019. Instead of pulling over, he sped off, sparking a dangerous pursuit through Uxbridge.

  • Rezene smashed past 30mph zones at over 80mph
  • Drove on the wrong side of the road during the chase
  • Refused to stop at Uxbridge High Street and hit a pedestrian crossing at a zebra crossing

The victim, who was crossing legally, was struck hard but managed to crawl to safety on the pavement. Officers on the scene gave first aid until paramedics arrived.

More Collisions, More Victims

Rezene didn’t stop there. He carried on driving recklessly, crashing into another car and a London bus. Two additional victims were injured and taken to hospital.

His smashed-up Mercedes was left at the scene. Rezene fled on foot, dropping his coat, which was found by a police dog during the manhunt.

Drugs and Guilty Pleas

Police discovered £2,500 worth of heroin inside the wrecked Mercedes. CCTV showed Rezene tossing cocaine out the window during the chase—worth about £12,500.

After being identified via CCTV, Rezene handed himself in at Hayes Police Station on 2 January and was charged with multiple offences including:

  • Causing serious injury by dangerous driving
  • Failing to stop or report during a road accident
  • Driving without insurance
  • Possession with intent to supply cocaine and heroin

Rezene pleaded guilty in August to dangerous driving causing serious injury, drug possession with intent to supply, and other driving offences.

Justice for Victims

On 30 September, Rezene was sentenced to five years in jail. The victim, who attended the sentencing hearing, expressed deep gratitude toward police for their relentless work.

PC Kevin McLean from West Area CID said: “The CCTV footage of Rezene’s driving is horrendous. My heart goes out to the victim with life-changing injuries. The overwhelming evidence left Rezene no choice but to plead guilty, sparing the victim from reliving the ordeal at trial.”

“Drug supply is linked to violence in all its forms. We are determined to protect the public and keep London safe.”
