Three Crooks Jailed After Toddler Held at Knifepoint in Shocking Greenwich Raid
Three men caught red-handed plotting brutal robberies in Greenwich and Bromley have been locked up. The gang’s chilling crimes included threatening a toddler with a knife during a terrifying home invasion.
Fear and Violence in Heart of Greenwich
Lewis Dormer, 38, Kwesi Caven, 39, and Elijah McPhee-Young, 25, thought they were untouchable. But after a painstaking Met police probe, they face heavy jail terms for their crime spree. The investigation was led by the Flying Squad’s Detective Chief Inspector Laura Hillier, who hailed the effort as “immensely complex” and praised officers’ tireless work.
Crimes That Shocked the Capital
- On August 20, 2020, McPhee-Young and Caven used a stolen car to ram a security guard in Mottingham. McPhee-Young threatened the guard at knifepoint and stole cash cassettes.
- On November 15, 2021, Dormer and Caven broke into a Greenwich home. They held a man’s three-year-old son at knife point, demanding cash. The victim handed over £10,000 under threat, before escaping once left alone.
Jail Sentences for Ruthless Robbery Crew
- Caven got a massive 16-year sentence for conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary, robbery, and handling stolen goods.
- McPhee-Young got six and a half years for robbery and knife possession.
- Dormer copped seven years and two months after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery.
How Police Cracked the Case
The gang didn’t just strike without prepping. Police uncovered they placed a tracker on the victim’s car a week before the Greenwich raid, watching his every move. Surveillance and forensic evidence, including DNA found on the tracker, nailed the trio. They were arrested in July 2022, finally brought to justice after months of painstaking detective work.
Detective Chief Inspector Laura Hillier said, “This case demanded dedication and skill to piece together the evidence and bring these dangerous individuals to justice.”
