Massive Tommy Robinson Rally Sparks Clashes with Riot Police in London
More than 110,000 protesters flooded the streets of 123 and Zarah Sultana gathered roughly 5,000 people opposing Robinson’s demonstration.
Commander Clair Haynes, overseeing the operation, urged calm and reassured Londoners, especially within the Muslim community, saying: “Everyone should be able to feel safe travelling into and around London.”
Robinson’s Rally: ‘The Football Lads Are Coming’
Tommy Robinson, born Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, hailed the event as potentially one of the biggest protests in British history. He called out to the “football lads” to join the march, declaring, “The football lads are coming from everywhere.”
The atmosphere turned charged as flares were lit and chants targeting Labour leader Keir Starmer echoed across the crowd. The Metropolitan Police pegged the “Unite the Kingdom” event attendance at 110,000, dwarfing the 5,000-strong counter-protest.
Violence Erupts as Police Face Projectiles and Arrests
Violence flared up when groups of Robinson supporters tried to break through a “sterile area” designed to separate rival factions. Police came under attack with projectiles as they struggled to maintain order. Several arrests were made amid the mayhem.
Robinson was front and centre, accompanied by controversial figures like 1 and Katie Hopkins. He posted a video on social media, insisting that “patriotism is the future.”
