West Sussex trainee firefighters gear up for epic 180-mile charity bike challenge!
Riding for a Cause
Eleven fresh recruits from West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service are set to conquer a massive 180 miles on static bikes to raise cash for charity. That’s the equivalent of popping into all 25 fire stations across West Sussex — plus a special spin to The Fire Fighters Charity site at Marine Court, Littlehampton.
Where and When
The endurance event kicks off on Friday, 24th March at Tesco Express in Horley. Every penny raised will be donated to The Fire Fighters Charity, marking its 80th anniversary this year.
From Training to Triumph
These fiery trainees have just wrapped a punishing 13-week course packed with lifesaving skills — from tackling blazing fires to rescuing road accident victims and water emergencies. Now, they’re taking on this grueling bike ride to push themselves one last time before heading to their new fire stations across the county.
Words from the Frontline
“The group of trainee firefighters have pushed themselves to the limits during their training course. This is their final chance to push themselves one last time and raise as much money as possible for charity,” said Steve Buchanan-Lee, Group Manager for Development and Operational Training.
Young trainee Imogen Lawson-Evans added, “The Fire Fighters Charity does brilliant work to help firefighters and their families live healthier and happier lives. I’m proud to support such an amazing cause during their 80th birthday year.”
