Two Londoners Jailed Over Guns Stash Found at Channel Tunnel
Two London men have been locked up for almost 17 years after trying to smuggle four Heckler and Koch pistols and 100 rounds of 9mm ammo into the UK.
Guns Discovered by Border Force at Channel Tunnel
Steven Landers, 56, from Elephant and Castle, and Steven Mulroe, 41, from Battersea, were sentenced to eight years and three months each at Maidstone Crown Court on Thursday.
The National Crime Agency launched its probe after Border Force seized the firearms and ammo in May. Officers spotted the stash tucked away in a bag under the boot carpet of Landers’ BMW at the Channel Tunnel terminal in Coquelles.
Dodgy Defence: Claim They Knew Nothing
The pair were arrested on the spot. During questioning, Landers claimed they were heading to Amsterdam just to “visit brothels and smoke,” denying any knowledge of the weapons in his car.
He even couldn’t remember the hotel they supposedly stayed at overnight when heavy rain forced them to stop.
Landers told NCA officers, “Someone must have put the guns in the car” without him realising.
Judges Unmoved by Wild Story
The court wasn’t convinced by his alibi, handing down hefty prison terms for their dangerous attempt to flood the streets with illegal firearms.
