Teen Thugs Behind Brutal Train Knife Attack Sentenced
Victim Left Blind After Shocking Rail Assault
An 18-year-old victim was left permanently blind in one eye following a brutal knife attack on a northbound train in North London. The chilling assault unfolded just after 7pm on Thursday, September 24, as the victim sat with his electric scooter onboard departing Northumberland Park station.
Three Gang-Linked Teens Caught and Jailed
Jaheim Smith-Williams, 18, from Whites Row, London, Gabriel Burke-Georgiou, 18, of Poynton Road, London, and a 15-year-old boy (name withheld for legal reasons) have pleaded guilty to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. All were linked to rival gangs.
They were sentenced at London’s Old Bailey on Friday 9 April to a combined total of 18 years behind bars:
- Smith-Williams: 6 years 9 months
- Burke-Georgiou: 6 years 9 months
- 15-year-old: 5 years 1 month
Violent Attack on Packed Train
Smith-Williams and Burke-Georgiou, both 17 at the time, approached the victim and launched the savage attack. Burke-Georgiou struck first while Smith-Williams brandished a Rambo-style knife, stabbing the victim at least three times.
Nearby passengers fled in panic, blocking the then 14-year-old from joining. Undeterred, the 14-year-old pulled out a long-bladed machete and joined the brutal assault, forcing the victim backwards through the carriage.
Smith-Williams struck multiple times with the knife, leaving the victim collapsed on the floor, clutching his left eye.
Escape and Aftermath
As the train pulled into Meridian Water station, the attackers fled, with Burke-Georgiou making off on the victim’s electric scooter. The victim, found collapsed outside a nearby supermarket, was rushed to hospital with stab wounds to his shoulder, head, and severe hand injuries. Tragically, he lost his left eye.
Police Praise Brave Witnesses, Recover Weapons
Knives used in the attack were found near Meridian Water station by British Transport Police officers the following day.
BTP Detective Constable Nick Barr said: “This was a premeditated and vicious attack onboard a busy train which left the victim with life-changing injuries. It was incredibly distressing for witnesses and I thank those who helped bring the culprits to justice.”
“Incidents like this are thankfully rare on our railways. Report anything suspicious by texting 61016 or call 999 in an emergency.”
