James Arbery, a known drug addict from Carisbrooke Road, has been jailed for 32 months after robbing a convenience store at knifepoint. On 9th February, Arbery masked his face with a black stocking and stormed into the Central Convenience store on Upper St James’ Street in Newport.

£200 Stolen in Daylight Heist

Arbery threatened the cashier with a knife, snatched £200, then fled the scene. Police quickly caught up with him shortly after the brazen daylight robbery.

Jail Time Despite Sentencing Pleas

Despite his lawyers’ desperate pleas for a suspended sentence, Arbery was handed an immediate custodial term. He will serve half of his 32-month sentence behind bars. He pleaded guilty to robbery and threatening the store staff.
