Two Men Charged Over New Cross Stabbing Attack
Two men have been charged with conspiracy to commit murder following a stabbing in New Cross that left a woman in her 30s injured. The brutal attack took place on Parkfield Road near Lewisham Way just before 9am on May 24.
Swift Emergency Response Saves Woman
Police and London Ambulance Service crews rushed to the scene. The woman was treated immediately and taken to hospital. Thankfully, her injuries were deemed non-life-threatening.
Suspects Arrested and Charged
The suspects, 64-year-old Jorge Enrique Borges of Buttermere Close, Southwark, and 24-year-old Mateo Valencia Cano of Whitehorse Lane, South Norwood, were arrested on June 28. They were charged the following day. Both face conspiracy to murder charges at Bromley Magistrates’ Court.
Cano also faces additional charges for attempted murder, robbery, and possession of an offensive weapon.
Next Court Appearance Scheduled
Both men are due to appear at Crown Court on July 29. The exact venue has yet to be confirmed.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “On May 24, police were called to Lewisham Way following a stabbing. Officers and ambulance crews treated a woman in her 30s. Luckily, her condition is not life-threatening. Jorge Enrique Borges and Mateo Valencia Cano appeared at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on July 1 charged with conspiracy to murder. Cano faces additional charges including attempted murder and robbery. Both are remanded to appear at Crown Court on July 29.”
