Club Stabbing Tragedy Rocks Birmingham on Boxing Day

A 23-year-old non-league footballer and school sports coach was fatally stabbed on the dance floor of Digbeth’s Crane nightclub on Boxing Day. The chaotic night has now led to a murder investigation and courtroom drama.

Two Held Over Murder at Crane Nightclub

On Monday, two men from Birmingham – 21-year-old Kami Carpenter and 22-year-old Remy Gordon – appeared at Birmingham Crown Court charged with murder. Neither entered a plea to the murder charge. However, both pleaded not guilty to a related affray charge and confirmed their identities.

After a brief four-minute hearing, they were remanded in custody. Carpenter, currently of no fixed address, and Gordon, from Cofton Park Drive, Birmingham, face a fresh hearing on January 30.

Club Licence Suspended After Police Describe ‘Scene of Chaos’

The Crane nightclub had its licence suspended for 28 days following a damning police review. West Midlands Police slammed the venue for “serious management failings” that night. Officers described a chaotic scene after the fatal stabbing.

In a statement after the hearing, the club said it would not oppose the temporary suspension and would instead cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation.

Victim’s Death Confirmed; More Arrests and Bail Releases

Post-mortem results confirmed the victim died from a stab wound. Alongside Carpenter and Gordon, a 22-year-old man arrested for murder suspicion has been released on bail. Four others detained on suspicion of assisting an offender have also been bailed.
