Knife arrests rock Medway streets days before New Year!
Man nabbed with blade on Maidstone’s Bank Street
On the afternoon of Thursday 29 December 2022, police stopped Daniel Weldon, 41, in Maidstone. Officers found him carrying a knife. He was arrested immediately. A search at the station uncovered a stash of Class A drugs. Weldon, from Sandringham Road, Gillingham, now faces charges for possession of a bladed article in public and drugs possession. He has been bailed to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on 23 January 2023.
Another caught with knife in Strood
The night before, on Wednesday 28 December, 18-year-old Kaan Kaptanoglu was stopped on Commercial Road, Strood. Police found a knife and cannabis on him. Kaptanoglu, from Cecil Road, Rochester, was arrested and charged with possession of a bladed article and cannabis possession. He is due at Medway Magistrates’ Court on 4 January 2023.
Medway police crack down on knife crime
These arrests underline ongoing efforts by Medway police to tackle knife crime and illegal drug possession in the community. Both men have been bailed pending court appearances early next year.
