Two Men Nabbed in Belgium Over Elephant & Castle Stabbing Death

Two men linked to the stabbing death of a 24-year-old at Elephant & Castle Underground station have been arrested—over 1,000 miles from the scene in Antwerp, Belgium.

Arrests Made Following European Warrants

A 30-year-old and a 22-year-old, both from Barking, were detained on suspicion of murder on October 15 and 16, respectively. The arrests came after European Arrest Warrants were issued, paving the way for their extradition back to the UK.

Tragic Stabbing Sparks Murder Investigation

The inquiry began after two men were found stabbed near Elephant & Castle station on September 1. Norman Bertran-Tavarez, 24, died the following day in hospital. Another man, 25, was seriously injured but has since been released.

Two 20-year-old men from Southwark were initially arrested for violent disorder but later freed without charge.

Detective Chief Inspector Praises Belgian Police Efforts

This is a pleasing development in our ongoing investigation into the tragic death of a man, and violent assault of another, in a London Underground station,” said DCI Sam Blackburn. “Thanks to our colleagues in Belgium, we have now detained two men who will be extradited to the United Kingdom.”
