Two Men Jailed Over Brutal Daytime Mitcham Knife Attack
Enes Ulas, 23, and Daniel James, 24, both homeless, have been locked up for their roles in a shocking violent attack in Mitcham. Ulas landed a hefty 10-year sentence at Kingston Crown Court on July 29. James got two and a half years after pleading guilty back in June.
Violent Assault in Broad Daylight
The terrifying incident unfolded on August 7, 2020, on Potter Close, Mitcham. Ulas, hooded and gloved, brandished what looked like a gun. Together with James, they approached a group of people, sparking chaos. James pulled out a large knife, threatening a man. Ulas then chased a 24-year-old victim, stabbing him in the right side of the head.
The victim was rushed to St George’s Hospital, where he received treatment for serious injuries with lasting effects.
CCTV and Police Work Crack the Case
Thanks to detailed CCTV analysis, police matched clothing worn by the attackers to evidence seized later, helping to identify Ulas and James. They were swiftly arrested and charged.
Detective Constable Emily Dawson said: “This was a violent assault on a young man that occurred in broad daylight in a residential area with young children present. The local community was shocked.”
“I’d like to thank them for their assistance and patience during the police investigation. I hope the convictions bring the victim some closure and wish him the best in his ongoing recovery. Violent acts like this will not be tolerated.”
Met Police Vow to Crack Down on Violence
