Hull Home Invasion Pair Locked Up After Terrifying Attack

Scott Thomas, 31, homeless, and Colin Mellors, 41, of Belmont Street, Hull, have been jailed following a brutal home invasion. A jury at Hull Crown Court found both men guilty after a week-long trial.

Victim Held at Knifepoint While Partner Bound and Gagged

On 16 August last year, the terrified victims were attacked in their own home. Around 10.30pm, the man returned to find Thomas and Mellors inside. His partner was left punched in the face, bound with tie wraps and gagged.

Thomas held a knife to the man’s throat while Mellors ransacked the house, demanding cash. The crooks only managed to escape with £40.

Rapid Police Action Leads to Arrests

  • Thomas was arrested just 10 days later, on 26 August.
  • Mellors was caught months after, on 12 December.

Both were charged and remanded in custody.

Detective Condemns Attack: ‘No Remorse from Thugs’

“This was a shocking and violent attack on a couple in their own home,” said Detective Constable Downs. “They showed no remorse, pleading not guilty and forcing the victims to relive their nightmare during the trial.

“I hope this verdict and the lengthy prison sentences bring the victims a sense of justice.”

“Violence like this won’t be tolerated. We’re committed to protecting our communities and punishing criminals.”
