Two Men Jailed for Horrific Attacks on Vulnerable Women in Northampton
Trofim Midoni, 21, and Valeriu Frunza, 24, have been locked up for brutal attacks on three vulnerable women in Northampton. The pair, from The Mounts and Kingsthorpe respectively, were convicted last month following an eight-day trial at Northampton Crown Court.
Gruesome Crimes Uncovered
Frunza was found guilty of 12 offences including rape, attempted rape, kidnap, and sexual assault. He was handed an 18-year sentence, increased to 20 years due to his risk to the public. Midoni, guilty of eight offences, received 13 years, extended to 15 years for dangerousness.
The court heard how the men preyed on three women in Northampton town centre between 1 and 2 December 2019. They forced the victims into remote locations against their will. Two women were sexually assaulted and abandoned, while the third was beaten and raped.
Victims Show Courage, Justice Served
- First victim kidnapped and sexually assaulted but managed to escape.
- Second victim kidnapped, raped, and sexually assaulted.
- Third victim kidnapped and sexually assaulted.
The women bravely reported the crimes to Northamptonshire Police. This led to the swift arrest and continued custody of Midoni and Frunza.
Judge Slams Attackers, Police Praise Victims
Sentencing the pair, His Honour Judge David Herbert QC condemned the “degradation and humiliation” inflicted. He confirmed the attacks were carefully planned and involved multiple offences against vulnerable victims. Both men received indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Orders (SHPO).
“They systematically put all three women through the most horrific ordeal that will live with them for the rest of their lives,” said Detective Inspector Liz Basham from Northamptonshire Police CID. “Midoni and Frunza present a clear danger to women everywhere, so it is reassuring to see they will now be locked up for a long time.”
Detective Constable Megan Scotney, who led the investigation, added: “These women showed tremendous bravery in coming forward. Thanks also to the public who submitted vital evidence leading to these convictions. Northamptonshire Police takes all sexual violence allegations seriously and will do everything to bring offenders to justice.”
