Teen Thieves Jailed After Brazen Attempt to Steal Judge’s £15K Bike from Court Grounds
Two teens have been locked up after trying to nick a judge’s £15,000 high-performance motorbike from Snaresbrook Crown Court. Shay Hollis, 18, and Deon-Dre Rogers-Barrett, 19, both from Enfield, faced Wood Green Crown Court last Friday for the shocking stunt.
How the Courtyard Heist Went Down
On 16 April 2021, at 2.10pm, Hollis and Rogers-Barrett, riding mopeds with a third unknown accomplice, stormed the grounds of Snaresbrook Crown Court. They spotted the prized BMW R 1250GS Adventure TE Rallye worth £15,000 and made a quick move to steal it.
A security guard challenged them, but Hollis pulled out a machete and threatened him. The guard, fearing for his life, ran inside. The pair then tried to push the motorbike away – only to find the gates shut behind them, trapping them inside.
They abandoned the bike, causing thousands of pounds’ worth of damage, and ditched their mopeds, helmets, an angle grinder, and the machete. Then they fled on foot, scaling the fences to escape.
Police Investigation Uncovers the Truth
- Items left behind were forensically linked to both suspects. One moped was registered to Rogers-Barrett.
- Both were arrested a month later, on 27 May 2021.
- Rogers-Barrett staged a false robbery report to cover his tracks but was caught thanks to CCTV and recovered property.
- Distinctive clothing worn during the crime was seized from Hollis’ home.
- A third suspect remains unidentified.
Sentences and Police Reaction
Rogers-Barrett was handed a 21-month sentence, suspended for 18 months. He faces a 3-month electronic curfew, 25 days of rehabilitation, and must pay £500 compensation. Hollis received an 18-month supervision order and 12 hours of unpaid work plus £500 compensation.
PC Ian Croxford, from the Met’s Operation Venice, said: “This brazen attempt to steal a valuable motorbike inside Crown Court grounds shows a blatant disregard for the law. The attackers even threatened our security staff with a machete. This sends a clear message: serious criminals will be caught and punished.”
