Dangerous Driver Banned and Car Destroyed After Reckless Pursuit in Kent
Kent Police have cracked down on anti-social vehicle behaviour after a court ordered a BMW to be confiscated and destroyed following a dangerous police chase.
Police Chase Ends in Crash and Court Order
Earlier this year, officers from Kent’s Roads Policing Unit spotted a BMW drifting recklessly on a roundabout in New Hythe Lane, Aylesford. The car had no number plates and was surrounded by a large crowd. Despite repeated instructions to stop, the driver fled, prompting a high-speed pursuit through Larkfield.
The BMW sped through red lights, went the wrong way on roundabouts, and dangerously raced through residential streets before smashing into the central reservation on Castle Way.
Driver Faces Severe Penalties
The 24-year-old Essex man was arrested and charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop, and driving in a condition likely to cause injury. On 4 July at Maidstone Crown Court, he received a 10-month suspended sentence, lost his driving licence for a year, and was told his vehicle will be destroyed.
Kent Police Warns: No Tolerance for Anti-Social Driving
As part of the force’s Safer Summer campaign, Kent Police are stepping up patrols targeting reckless drivers and anti-social behaviour hotspots, including New Hythe Lane. Officers will order troublemakers to leave immediately, with non-compliance risking arrest and vehicle seizure.
PC Daniel Goodman said: “This driver showed total disregard for other road users and the public. His selfish actions could have had far more serious consequences.”
“This week is Anti-Social Behaviour Awareness Week, and this case proves we are committed to tackling dangerous driving head-on.”
“We understand the impact such behaviour has on residents and urge anyone affected to report incidents through our website.”
