Dog Dramas: Willy the Lab Plucked from Hidden Well After Terrifying Fall!
Seven-Year-Old Pup Trapped in Woodland Pit
In Eastleigh, a dramatic rescue unfolded last night when Willy, a seven-year-old Labrador, accidentally tumbled down a concealed well in woodland near Boyatt Lane. Owner Roger Bacon was out walking Willy and his other dog when he noticed the Lab had vanished. Following frantic barks, Roger found the well hidden under thick ivy – a deadly trap waiting in the dark.
Brave Firefighters Dive Into Narrow Well
The well was deep and cramped, with Willy splashing in cold water at the bottom. Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service’s specialist Animal Rescue Team, led by Advisor Jim Green, sprung into action. Firefighter Pete Richards was lowered on ropes into the tight shaft to secure Willy. Using expert rescue gear, firefighters carefully hauled the distressed dog to safety.
Willy Walks Away Unhurt – Thanks to Quick-Thinking Rescue
Once out, Willy was given a warm decontamination wash right by the fire engine. Miraculously, he escaped without a scratch. Roger said, “Willy’s had a much-needed bath and a good chew on his bone this morning. He seems very well.” He added a stern warning to other dog owners: beware hidden wells when out walking.
Experts Warn: Watch Out for Hidden Dangers
“I’ve lived here for years and never knew that well was there,” Roger revealed. “Anyone’s pet—or even a child—could easily fall in.”
Animal Rescue Advisor Jim Green urged caution: “When animals get into difficulty, it’s tempting to help but recognise your limits and call in specialists. HFRS is proud to protect both people and their furry family members with expert rescue efforts.”
