Brother Jailed for Fatal Punch at Motocross Event
A violent family spat ended in tragedy at a motocross meet in Upper Wanborough, Wiltshire. Ben Starr, 35, has been handed two years in jail after punching his brother Lee Starr, 38, to death during a heated altercation.
Family Feud Turns Deadly at Summer Motocross
Ben and Lee Starr’s argument at Foxhill Motocross Track on 22 August 2024 spiralled out of control. Eyewitnesses, including the brothers’ own children, watched as the confrontation escalated into a violent fight. After they were pulled apart, Ben delivered a final, fatal blow as Lee tried to walk away. Lee collapsed and died shortly after from his injuries.
Heartbreaking Words from Grieving Widow
“Lee was cruelly and senselessly taken from me and our children… every single day is a fight just to keep going without him. The future we dreamed of was erased,”
Lee’s wife broke down in court, mourning a life cut tragically short. She spoke of the milestones Lee will never see – weddings, birthdays, grandchildren – leaving the family shattered.
Police Warn Against One-Punch Tragedies
“A single punch has ruined the lives of a family. This should have been a joyful family weekend — yet it ended in tragedy,”
said Detective Chief Inspector Phil Walker from the Major Crime Investigation Team.
He urged people to walk away from brewing conflict to prevent violence. “One punch can destroy lives. Look out for each other and make safe choices,” he warned.
Justice Delivered – But Family Left Broken
Ben Starr was arrested at the scene and charged with manslaughter. He pleaded guilty, accepting full responsibility. The judge took into account his remorse and cooperation but delivered a firm two-year prison sentence.
Wiltshire Police continue to appeal for anyone witnessing aggressive public confrontations to call for help or step away before violence escalates. In emergencies, dial 999; for non-urgent concerns, call 101.
