Wiltshire Police Crack Down on Drink and Drug Driving This December
A tough new campaign kicked off on Tuesday (1st December) as Wiltshire Police launch a month-long crackdown on drink and drug driving. Officers are urging the public to report suspected offenders to help catch repeat culprits and keep the county’s roads safe.
Recent Arrests Highlight Serious Problem
- In Devizes, a 33-year-old man was arrested after a roadside drugs test on 2nd December just after 5pm. He’s now being investigated for drug driving.
- Early on 3rd December at 1.15am, a 36-year-old woman in Salisbury was taken into custody for multiple offences. She was caught driving the wrong way down a one-way street and arrested for refusing a breath test, assaulting an emergency worker, criminal damage, obstructing police, and driving without a valid licence.
- At 2am in Tidworth, Julian Marchant, 37, was charged with drink driving, driving while disqualified, and driving without insurance. He’s out on bail and set to appear in court in February.
- Minutes later in Trowbridge, Robert Pawlowski, 37, was stopped and charged with drink driving. He also faces a court hearing in February.
- Just before 3am in Bradford on Avon, a 23-year-old man was arrested after police found Class A drugs and a knife during a vehicle stop. He faces charges including driving under the influence of drugs, drug supply, and possession of a weapon. He remains in custody.
Police Warn: Zero Tolerance for Drink and Drug Drivers
Inspector Mark Freeman from Wiltshire Police’s roads policing team said: “We want it to be clear that we will stop motorists who raise suspicions of drink or drug driving. The consequences could be huge – not just risking your life and others’, but potentially losing your licence or facing prison.”
