Fake Masseuse Caught in Sick Abuse Scheme

Mooney claimed he was a certified masseur on Facebook, but his so-called certificate was a total fake. It was all part of a twisted plan to prey on women.

Discounted Massage Turns into Nightmare

On 14 December 2020, Mooney reached out to a victim who had liked his Facebook page, offering her a discounted massage. He showed up at her home, promising to focus on her shoulders and back. Instead, his massage turned increasingly indecent, peppered with lewd comments. When she told him to stop, he finally left. The victim wasted no time and reported him to the police.

Police Crack Open Fake Business and More Victims Come Forward

Once arrested, investigators dug into Mooney’s sham business and uncovered more victims. Using Facebook, Mooney targeted women with lowball offers, pretending to be a newly qualified masseur eager to build his client list. Always visiting at the victim’s chosen address, he commenced massages that turned into sexual assaults. Some victims recall him showing off his fake certificate, while others noticed he seemed sexually aroused during the sessions.

Falsified Certificate Exposed

After his arrest, Mooney tried to bluff officers with his bogus certificate. It was quickly exposed as a fraud. The 123 Enfield man now faces an indefinite restraining order.

Detective Constable Gemma Willis said: “When women receive a massage to aid recovery, they expect a qualified professional. These victims trusted Mooney, who had falsified his credentials, then abused them at their most vulnerable.”

“Mooney is an appalling predatory individual who has left women feeling violated by his actions. I can only hope his imprisonment allows them some closure following the ordeal they all suffered.”
