Worthing Thug Jailed For Violent Attack On Homeless Man

Brutal Attack on Homeless Man in Worthing Lands Offender Behind Bars for Seven Years

Shocking Bottle Attack on Defenceless Victim

A violent and unprovoked attack unfolded on a homeless man outside a shop on Montague Street, Worthing, last October. The 43-year-old victim was sitting peacefully when Shaun Brown, 36, suddenly struck him over the head twice with a clear bottle. The blows caused the bottle to shatter, and Brown then used the broken neck to stab the man in the side of his head.

Severe Injuries & Instant Public Action

The victim suffered serious head and facial wounds, needing emergency medical care. Witnesses sprang into action, chasing down Brown and holding him until police arrived. Their quick thinking helped bring the attacker to justice without delay.

Seven Years for Shaun Brown After Guilty Plea

Brown, an unemployed man from Brighton Road, Worthing, was arrested and charged with grievous bodily harm. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced at Lewes Crown Court on 9 January to seven years – four behind bars and three on licence.

Police Vow Zero Tolerance for Violence

Detective Constable Lynnette Atkins said: “This was a shocking attack on a homeless man in the centre of town on a busy Saturday afternoon, and was witnessed by many. Thankfully, the defendant was swiftly detained by a number of quick-thinking members of public, and I’d like to thank them for their actions.

“I’d like to reassure the public that this sort of behaviour will absolutely not be tolerated, and we will do everything within our powers to deal with offenders robustly and bring them to justice.

“I’d also urge the community to continue to report any incidents to us to allow us to respond accordingly.”
