Arrests and Police Clampdown Underway

An 18-year-old man from Basildon was arrested for grievous bodily harm and drug possession. A 20-year-old from South Ockendon faces affray charges. Police are hunting others involved and have launched heavy patrols in the area.

Chief Inspector Ashley Howard said: “Officers responded swiftly to the disorder and are working overnight to investigate and keep the community safe. The stop-and-search powers in place will aid in preventing further violence. We thank witnesses who have helped so far and urge anyone with information to contact Southend CID on 101 quoting reference 1144.”

Extra Powers to Keep Southend Safe

Police activated Section 60 powers—allowing stop-and-search without reasonable suspicion—covering Chalkwell Park and nearby areas until 6am today. British Transport Police already used these powers around Chalkwell Railway Station and the beach walkway.

Authorities are stepping up to stop this wave of violence before it escalates further in Southend.
