Tragedy in Hale: Missing Teen Found Dead in River Bollin

Greater Manchester Police have confirmed the body found in the River Bollin, Hale, today is 14-year-old Luke Howe. The schoolboy was reported missing around 6.30pm on Thursday, 18 January 2024.

Search Efforts Fail to Save Luke

Emergency services launched an urgent search last night, scouring the River Bollin and the River Mersey in South Manchester. Despite their tireless efforts, Luke was sadly recovered from the water.

No Suspicion Over Luke’s Death

Police say there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding Luke’s tragic death. His next of kin have been informed, and specially trained officers are supporting the family during this heartbreak.

Police Praise Public and Officers

Detective Inspector Rick Lees of GMP’s Trafford Division said: “Our condolences are with Luke’s friends and family at this awful time. This is a tragic loss of a young life under terrible circumstances. We ask that Luke’s family be given privacy while they grieve. I want to commend our officers and emergency services who worked tirelessly through difficult conditions to find Luke. Thanks also to the public who helped with the search and shared our appeal — your support means a lot.”
