Met Police Officer Who Shot Drill Rapper Chris Kaba Suspended
Chris Kaba fatally shot after police chase
Chris Kaba, a known drill rapper, died on Monday, September 5th following a police pursuit in Streatham Hill. The Met Police officer involved in the shooting has now been placed on administrative leave.
Reports reveal Kaba’s Audi was connected to a firearms incident days earlier. The car was spotted by Automatic Number Plate Readers (ANPR), prompting Armed Response Vehicles (ARVs) to arrive on the scene. When officers signalled Kaba to stop, he fled, leading to a chase that ended when his car was boxed in.
Family demands suspension after shooting
Details on the prior firearms incident or intelligence linked to the vehicle remain under wraps. Kaba’s family quickly called for the shooting officer to be suspended. The officer had already been on restricted duties, away from frontline policing, but following mounting pressure, the Metropolitan Police confirmed his suspension last night.
Met Police respond amid public outcry
Assistant Commissioner Amanda Pearson stated:
“The firearms officer involved in Chris Kaba’s death has been suspended from duty.”
This decision was made after careful consideration, including the impact on public confidence and the ongoing homicide investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
“Our hearts are with Mr Kaba’s family and friends. We understand the concerns, especially in Black communities, and thank those working with our officers.”
“We urge anyone with information to contact the IOPC to support the independent investigation.”
“The suspension does not influence the outcome of the IOPC probe.”
“Firearms officers know they will face intense scrutiny when discharging their weapons. This will deeply affect the officer and colleagues.”
Police unions silent as calls for transparency grow
So far, neither the Metropolitan Police Federation nor the Police Firearms Officers Association have issued any statements on the suspension or shooting.
