Banbury Woman Nabbed in Major People Smuggling Crackdown

A 31-year-old woman was arrested today at a Banbury, Oxfordshire address. She faces suspicion of facilitating illegal immigration and is now in custody for questioning.

NCA Targets Ruthless Albanian Smugglers

Jacque Beer, Regional Head of Investigations at the National Crime Agency (NCA), revealed this arrest is part of a proactive probe. She said Albanian organised crime groups have been acting as brokers, exploiting transport networks to smuggle migrants.

“People smugglers only care about money, they don’t care about migrants’ safety or security,” said Beer. “Channel crossings are utterly perilous, which is why disrupting these criminal networks is a top priority.”

She added that smuggling gangs operate internationally, making global law enforcement cooperation essential.

Top Brass and Ministers Back NCA’s Tough Stance

The raid was backed by NCA Director General Graeme Biggar and Home Secretary Suella Braverman. Biggar warned that organised people smuggling is part of a wider serious crime challenge exploiting vulnerable people worldwide using modern technology.

“The NCA is working tirelessly, in the UK and globally, to protect the public from the criminals posing the greatest threat,” Biggar said.

Home Secretary Braverman slammed the gangs exploiting human lives as commodities and vowed:

“We will use every tool at our disposal to disrupt their business model, deter illegal migration, and save lives. No stone will be left unturned.”

Ongoing Battle Against Albanian Smugglers

  • Two weeks ago, Spanish and UK authorities dismantled an Albanian gang moving migrants through northern Spain into UK ports like Portsmouth, Southampton, and Liverpool.
  • Seven suspects were arrested in that operation; migrants paid between €3,000 and €15,000 for the dangerous journey.
  • On 7 October, a 30-year-old Albanian man was arrested in Surbiton, London, for coordinating small boat crossings from France to the UK.

The NCA currently has over 60 active investigations targeting top-tier organised immigration crime and human trafficking rings, many coordinated internationally with partners in France, Belgium, and beyond.

Dedicated NCA officers are stationed overseas, sharing intelligence and working side by side with foreign law enforcement to shut down these ruthless smuggling networks.
