Essex Police Hunt Cable Thieves in Tilbury

Essex Police are on the lookout after copper cable was nicked from Tilbury in the early hours of Sunday, 21 July.

Three Men Caught in the Act

Just before 12:20 a.m., officers were called to Fort Road following reports of three men trying to steal cable. The suspects reportedly opened a manhole and attempted to pull out cables.

The trio were all wearing baseball caps. One was seen in a hoodie and gloves. Despite police arriving quickly, the suspects got away with a haul of copper cable.

Police Seek CCTV and Witnesses

Detective Inspector Leanne Ford warned: “Cable thefts can seriously disrupt the community – cutting off internet and other vital services. This happened early morning, so if you live nearby, please check any CCTV or doorbell cameras you have. We are keen to identify a dark-coloured Ford Transit van spotted in the area during the theft.”

Anyone with information, dash cam, or CCTV footage is urged to come forward. Quote crime reference number 42/111103/24 when reporting.
