Two heroic police officers who raced to stop a terrorist knife attack in Streatham now face an astonishing investigation over their actions – sparking outrage across the Met.

Heroes Turned Suspects

The pair, part of the armed police response on February 2, were “dumbstruck” after being told the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is probing their conduct during the terror attack by Sudesh Amman. The Metropolitan Police Federation slammed the investigation as “astonishing” and warned it could threaten their careers.

While speeding through busy London streets with blue lights and sirens blaring, one officer’s unmarked police car crashed into another vehicle. Both the officer and other people involved suffered injuries. The second officer, also under investigation, drove a marked Armed Response Vehicle (ARV) and pressed on towards the chaotic scene.

MPF Slams IOPC Probe as ‘Absurd’

Ken Marsh, Chairman of the Met Police Federation, told us:

“The public will be appalled that brave officers responding to a terror attack could be treated like this. What kind of message does this send? They risked their lives to protect us – now their jobs are on the line. It’s absurd. A complete joke.”

He blasted the “hindsight brigade” for putting careers at risk and urged the IOPC to understand the split-second dangers facing cops. Marsh said officers shouldn’t have to worry about losing their livelihood when rushing to save lives.

Prime Minister Praises But Officers Punished

Despite Prime Minister Boris Johnson praising the “speed and bravery” of police that day, the officers have since been placed on restricted duties, banned from patrol while the lengthy investigation unfolds. The MPF warned the probe could drag on for months or even years, further stirring anger within the force.

IOPC Responds

An IOPC spokesperson stated:

“We are investigating a road traffic incident involving a Met police car that collided with two vehicles while responding to the Streatham terror attack. Two people were injured.

“Notices of investigation for dangerous driving and gross misconduct have been served on the officers involved. This does not imply guilt but informs them that their conduct is under review.”

For now, the brave officers wait in limbo – hailed as heroes one moment, but facing the risk of job loss the next. The Met’s own Federation warns this move sends a chilling message to frontline cops risking everything to keep London safe.
