£50k Play Park Blaze Shocks Shrewsbury Road
Chaos erupted on Shrewsbury Road, Manton, last Friday when Rainbow Park was deliberately set on fire. The blaze caused a whopping £50,000 worth of damage, sparking outrage in the community. Police were called to the scene around 4pm on 29 September.
Two Boys Questioned Over Arson Attack
Officers quickly launched an investigation, suspecting the fire was no accident. After sifting through CCTV footage, cops identified and grilled two 11-year-old boys. Both have since been released under investigation as inquiries continue.
“This senseless act has robbed children of their beloved play park,” said Inspector Hayley Crawford, District Commander for Bassetlaw. “We are treating this incident with the utmost seriousness and will hold those responsible to account.”
Community Leaders Slammed Vandalism
Simon Cookson from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service stressed the danger of deliberate fires. He said teamwork between fire crews, police, and councils is vital to keep public spaces safe.
Meanwhile, Councillor Darrell Pulk slammed the vandalism as “mindless” and a waste of emergency service resources, underlining how the park is a vital space for children’s fun and safety.
