Youth Sparks Fireworks Arson Horror in Kirkby Flats

Police are hunting for info after a firework was lobbed onto a twelfth-floor balcony in Kirkby, setting rubbish alight. The reckless stunt happened at 8.15pm on Monday, 16 October, on Roughwood Road.

Firefighters Race to Tackle Blaze

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service acted fast, dousing the flames before anyone was harmed. The block was safely evacuated, with no injuries reported.

Police Launch Joint Arson Probe

Police and fire crews have teamed up for a full investigation. Community Inspector Andy Robinson slammed the act, saying, “This was totally reckless and unacceptable. Lives were put at serious risk. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but this mindless act could have been fatal.”

He urged witnesses or anyone with information to speak up and warned that firing fireworks illegally carries stiff penalties:

  • Under-18s can’t buy, carry, or use fireworks.
  • Throwing or discharging fireworks in public is against the law.
  • Those caught risk arrest, fines, criminal records, or jail time.
  • Parents can be fined for their children under 16’s actions.
