Woman in her 70s attacked in broad daylight in Middleton sparking major police hunt for knife-wielding suspect.
Daylight Assault Shocks Middleton
Greater Manchester Police are hunting a suspect believed to have attacked a woman in her 70s at around 11:20am on Thursday, March 6, in Crow Hill South, Middleton. The victim suffered minor injuries but was left deeply shaken by the “unprovoked” assault.
Rapid Police Response and Full Investigation Underway
Emergency crews arrived fast to help the victim and secure the scene. Officers from Rochdale district are deploying major resources to track down the attacker. Detective Inspector Kimberley Hines, leading the case, said:
“This was a shocking and unprovoked attack on a vulnerable member of our community. We are pursuing every possible line of enquiry and are determined to identify and locate the person responsible.”
Door-to-Door Enquiries and CCTV Review
Since the attack, police have knocked on doors, interviewed witnesses, and are sifting through hundreds of hours of CCTV from local businesses and homes. Officers have brought in extra reinforcements to ensure no detail is missed.
Police Release Video of Suspect Fleeing Scene
In a major break, GMP released footage of a man seen fleeing soon after the attack. Although his face isn’t clear, investigators hope his clothing, build, or mannerisms will ring a bell with the public. They are urging anyone who recognises him to come forward.
