At Least Three Dead After Devastating Jersey Tower Block Blast
A powerful explosion ripped through a three-storey tower block on Pier Road in St Helier, Jersey, early Saturday – killing at least three people and leaving a scene of utter devastation.
Building ‘Completely Collapsed’ in Early Morning Blast
The blast struck around 4 a.m. at the Haut du Mont site, with police describing it as “very, very significant.” The building “doesn’t even look like a building” anymore after it completely collapsed, officials said.
Emergency crews found “pockets of fire” hours later, making the site “highly unsafe.” Initial reports said the fire was out, but smoke and danger still lingered. Residents had reported smelling gas the night before and alerted firefighters at 8.30 p.m.
Search for Missing Continues as Jersey Mourns
Around a dozen people remain unaccounted for following the disaster. The South West Ambulance Hazardous Area Response Team and an Urban Search and Rescue Team from Hampshire & Isle of Wight were sent in to help.
Chief Minister Kristina Moore called the blast a “tragic accident,” paying tribute to the island’s emergency services. “The last 12 hours have shown me the resilience, skill, and dedication of our emergency services and entire community,” she said.

Long Road Ahead as Rescue Efforts Grind On
States of Jersey Police Chief Officer Robin Smith warned the crisis is far from over. “This isn’t going to end today,” he stressed. The search for survivors is expected to drag on for days or even weeks.
Specially trained officers are now helping victims at Jersey Town Hall, offering support to families affected. Chief Fire Officer Paul Brown emphasised the painstaking nature of the operation: “Our only plan is to keep searching.”
