£6.5 Million Meth Haul Busted in Hong Kong – Bound for Sydney
Hong Kong Customs have smashed a massive methamphetamine smuggling plot worth around HK$46 million (AUD$9.4 million) after a tip-off from Australian authorities.
Drugs Hidden in Transformers From Mexico
The deadly drugs were cleverly concealed inside a shipment of transformers arriving from Mexico. The consignment was destined for a Western Sydney address in Blacktown.
Had the meth hit Australian streets, its value would have soared to an eye-watering AUD$68 million.
Australian and International Forces Join Forces
“This seizure is a great example of our international partners working together to combat the movement of illicit drugs across international borders,” said Detective Superintendent Timothy Underhill of the AFP.
“We are following every lead to find those responsible for this importation. Someone in Australia must know about this shipment, and we want to hear from them.”
He urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000 or via their website.
Border Force Vows to Crack Down Hard
ABF Superintendent Scott Mann, based in Hong Kong, highlighted the importance of teamwork: “This is a large amount of methamphetamine that would have caused significant harm in Australia. We achieve results like this only by working closely with our local, national and international partners.”
“The ABF will relentlessly pursue anyone trying to sneak narcotics into Australia.”
