Just Stop Oil Storms Channel 4’s Last Leg Live with Confetti and Protest
Three Just Stop Oil activists hijacked the Channel 4 comedy talk show The Last Leg live on air last night. Their message? The UK government must stop issuing new licences for oil, gas, and coal extraction immediately.
Confetti, Jigsaws & Britney Spears Blast Live TV
At around 10pm, the protesters dashed onto the set amid a cloud of confetti and jigsaw pieces. They blasted Britney Spears’ hit “Hit Me, Baby, One More Time” – referencing a viral clip from last week’s show. The trio thanked hosts Adam Hills, Josh Widdicombe, and Alex Brooker for backing their cause and handed over branded hi-vis vests as a cheeky gift.
The stunt came just days after the presenters urged supporters to disrupt sporting events nationwide to highlight the climate crisis.
Just Stop Oil Calls Out Government, Invites Hosts to Join the Street Protests
“Be careful what you wish for! Thanks to the Last Leg for their kind words. We’re kicking off disruptions with their show and invite Adam, Alex, and Josh to join us on the streets next week as we demand no new oil, gas, or coal licences in the UK,” said a Just Stop Oil spokesperson.
Kush Naker, 33, an infectious diseases doctor from London and one of the protesters, added:
“Thanks to The Last Leg for supporting our Wimbledon action and calling for protests at every sporting event. We need constant, non-violent pressure to force this inept government to stop all new fossil fuel licences.”
“I love The Last Leg. This isn’t an attack on the show, but an invitation for its hosts and viewers to join civil resistance against this reckless government.”
Climate Activists Vow to Fight On for Future Generations
Retired civil engineer William John Ward, 66, from Epsom — who made headlines last week for tossing jigsaw pieces and confetti at Wimbledon — spoke emotionally about his motivation:
“I don’t want my grandchildren and nieces to suffer. Millions already live in desperate conditions. I won’t let this continue.”
“After five meetings with my MP Chris Grayling, who simply won’t acknowledge UN or government climate warnings, I feel forced to act. I’m retired and should enjoy it, but there’s no choice left.”
Just Stop Oil: Thousands Arrested, Historic Jail Sentences for Climate Protesters
The Just Stop Oil campaign, launched in February 2022, has faced tough police crackdowns. Over 2,200 arrests have been made, with 138 supporters spending time behind bars, many without trial. Notably, Morgan Trowland and Marcus Decker are serving three-year sentences – the longest ever in British history for peaceful climate activism.
