Taxi Flop! Driver’s Pride and Joy Ends Up in Ditch on Standen Avenue

An Island taxi driver, or perhaps just a clueless motorist in a silver Merc, got a rude shock yesterday (Wednesday, May 2nd). They left their beloved vehicle abandoned on the roadside of Standen Avenue – only for it to slip off the edge and end up in a ditch.

Crane to the Rescue

Police had to call in the big guns. Island recovery experts Stag Lane Motors arrived with a specialist hi-ab crane to haul the stranded taxi back to safety. The dramatic rescue operation turned heads on Standen Avenue as the car was lifted from its muddy trap.

Driver’s Story Remains a Mystery

How the vehicle ended up off-road is still unclear. But one thing’s known: the driver didn’t have the meter running.

Costly Mistake

The driver has been left with a hefty bill for recovery and repairs. A pricey lesson to be learned from a moment’s carelessness on the roadside.
