Boris Bikes Roll Into Portsmouth: 150 Bikes Set to Hit the Streets
Portsmouth City Council is launching a new bike-sharing scheme to get the city cycling. Later this year, locals and visitors will have access to 150 bikes as part of an 18-month trial aimed at cutting car journeys and boosting healthy travel.
Nextbike Brings Affordable Bikes to Portsmouth
Public bike-sharing giant nextbike, which operates over 55,000 bikes in 150 cities worldwide, is rolling out its fleet in Portsmouth. The city joins major UK locations like Bath and Cardiff by offering residents cheap access to bikes.
The bikes can be rented from just 8p per day at key spots such as train stations and main shopping centres. The council carefully evaluated various providers before choosing nextbike as the perfect partner for Portsmouth.
Easy, Cheap, and Convenient Cycling
“We’re delighted to be bringing nextbikes to the people of Portsmouth,” said Julian Scriven, MD of nextbike. “With prices starting at just 8p a day, it’s one of the easiest, most affordable ways to get around. Plus, it’ll help improve health and reduce congestion — a win for everyone.”
Users rent via a smartphone app. Thanks to built-in central locks, there’s no need for docking stations, making bike hire hassle-free. Sessions are charged by time used, and you can keep a bike as long as you like.
Membership starts at £20 a year, or riders can simply pay as they go.
